fostering again
I put my foot down six months ago and said no more fostering. I even bought Lindsay the little Ziggy guy. Our hearts are just too big. The race season came to a close and GALT has over 100 dogs to place. They are in dire need of foster homes for these dogs as over 40 of them are being boarded at various kennels at a cost of $8 per day per dog. Not only is it a huge cost to GALT but the dogs have a better time at a person’s home. We picked up our foster dog yesterday and she is doing her best to fit in. Yeah, we’re animal people.
happy birthday pistol
Our girl greyhound Pistol turns five today. She got a happy birthday buffalo burger from my grill.

ziggy the italian greyhound
In November we adopted an Italian Greyhound through IGCA Rescue of Texas. We decided that fostering retired racers became rather challenging when school is in session as the juggling of activities presented difficulty. Lindsay always wanted a small cuddly dog and I agreed that she could get an iggy (Italian Greyhound) and the fostering would subside.
He’s still a puppy full of energy and is around eight months old. He gets along great with our big greyhounds but the cats are another issue. His playfulness is not amusing to the cats. He attempts to run with the big dogs in the back yard but ends up either getting in the way or falling way behind due to his size. The Italian Greys can run 25 MPH but that doesn’t mean much when you’re racing 48+ MPH giants!
padre’s racing pictures
Many thanks to Jon Fishback, an excellent photographer and board of trustees member for Greyhound Pets of America – Northwest, who took pictures of Cayenne Padre racing in Multnomah, Oregon for providing these pictures to us. We have a hard time imagining the ‘other’ life Padre led before retirement. He was an awesome racer and now an even more awesome lifetime friend.
I found the races that the pictures are of:
